Pickering Castle, c14th century, (c1990-2010). Interior reconstruction drawing of the New Hall in use as a court room. Presidential chair on right. Originally a timber and earth motte and bailey castle built by the Normans under William the Conqueror in 1069-1070. It was developed into a stone motte and bailey castle 14th century New Hall, initially built as a residence for Countess Alice, wife of Earl Thomas of Lancaster and later used as a courthouse.
