Citadel of Aleppo, Syria, 1931. One of the most historic cities in the world, Aleppo (ancient name: Halab) is strategically placed on all the major thoroughfares through North Syria. In 1986 Aleppo was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city was devastated in the Syrian Civil War.
