Severn Bridge, Aust, South Gloucestershire, 2011. General view of the bridge, carrying the M48 motorway, from the south-east. Now referred to as the old Severn Bridge, the first Severn crossing was constructed between 1961 and 1966 by Freeman Fox and Partners and designed by Sir Percy Thomas. The bridge spans 5,754ft from shore to shore, and was the longest suspension bridge in England when constructed.
