Nottingham Castle, Nottinghamshire, 1885. Exterior view of the east front. The building was built in the 1670s for the Duke of Newcastle, but was burned down in 1831 by rioters protesting at the Duke's opposition to the proposed Reform Act of 1832. It was restored in the 1870s to house a museum and art gallery and opened by the Prince of Wales in 1878.
