Wedgwood Etruria potteries, Hanley, Staffordshire. The factory viewed from the Etruria Canal which was constructed in order to transport finished wares from the potteries. Josiah Wedgwood's (1730-1795) Ivy and Etruria works were the first in Britain to maufacture ceramics on an industrial scale The Etruria Canal was built to link the factory to the Trent and Mersey Canal. Breakages we far less in wares transported by water than those carried overland.
