'The Meeting of the Zoological Society, Hanover Square', London, 1885. The naturalist Richard Owen (1804-1892) is in the left foreground, next to Mr Punch, holding an Apteryx bursting from its egg. Owen was the first to coin the term dinosaur to describe the fossilized reptiles that had been discovered. He was a committed opponent of Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution. Cartoon from Punch. (London, 23 May 1885).
