Suspension bridge over the Conwy estuary, Wales, c1840. One of the earliest iron suspension bridges, built by Thomas Telford (1757-1834). The first stone was laid on 3 April 1822 and the bridge was completed in the summer of 1826. Telford used eye-bar chains in its construction rather than cables.
