Légende
Suspension bridge over the Conwy estuary, Wales, c1840. View along the roadway entering Conwy. One of the earliest iron suspension bridges, it was part of the great London-Holyhead road built by the Scottish civil engineer Thomas Telford (1757-1834). The first stone was laid on 3 April 1822 and the bridge was completed in the summer of 1826. Telford used eye-bar chains in its construction rather than cables.
