Westminster Bridge, London, looking from the south bank of the Thames, 1858. This is the bridge rebuilt by Thomas Page (1803-1877) beginning in 1853. Charles Barry (1795-1860), architect of the Houses of Parliament, designed details on the bridge in keeping with Parliament. The bridge opened in 1862. In the right foreground a barge lowers its mast to pass under one of the arches of the bridge. From The Illustrated London News. (London, 1858).
