A foursome competition held on Monday 24th July 1899, with Mr F G Tait and Willie Park Junior opposing Mr J Ball and Harry Vardon. Challenge matches between the top professionals were highly popular. 10,000 spectators flocked to North Berwick to see a match between Park and Vardon in 1899, requiring special extra trains to be provided.
