Royal Doulton ashtray, c1935. A rare piece of Royal Doulton series ware, one of four small ashtrays which were designed to fit into a ceramic cigarette box. The cartoon transfer of a laughing caddy is marked with the facsimile signature of HM Bateman, whose work was only used on ornamental series wares.
