Ochre red slipped pottery jar with deer and archer, Karuo culture, China, c2300-c1800 BC. A jar with two small handles, covered with ochre red coloured slip down three quarters of the exterior and about 1.3 cm into the interior. Painted in black on handles and inside the rim with chevrons, a band of chevrons with lines round the jar under the handles. The middle of the jar has a continuous band of deer of different sizes and sexes and a man with bow and arrow all drawn in black pigment on the ochre red ground. The pottery is of brick red colour, and the base has a shallow indentation.
