Yue stoneware jar with impressed design, Eastern Han dynasty, China, 2nd-3rd century. A circular hu-shaped stoneware vase, made at the Shangyu kiln, Zhejiang. The jar's mouth is rather saucer-like and decorated on its exterior with a thickened circular ridge band, and the very short neck is decorated with two closely impressed bands. Its two strap handles have herring-bone relief decoration and its bulbous body is stamped with many basket-like decorative squares, all covered with a greyish-green iron oxide glaze of Yue type.
