Légende
Cizhou stoneware vase with black painted peonies, late Northern Song dynasty, China, early 12th century. A Cizhou vase with an ovoid body, tall neck, and trumpet-shaped undulating mouth standing on a hollow everted foot. The buff stoneware body is covered with a white slip and then painted in black on either side with a spray of peony with incised details all under a transparent glaze. This piece is a very good example of the use of the white slip and transparent overglaze used on most Cizhou pieces.
