Cizhou-type black glazed globular jar and cover, Jin dynasty, China, 1168. A globular jar and cover, the rim has some dribbles of white slip which extend down the body in ridges. It is covered almost to the base and inside with a black iron-oxide glaze of Cizhou-type tending to a speckled brown black where there is no underglaze slip. The body is buff where unglazed, and the footrim has five spur marks. The cover has a white slip on top and bottom, covered on the top with brownish black glaze. The handle is shaped like a flower stem.
