Blue and white garlic-headed vase on a hexagonal stand, Yuan dynasty, China, mid 14th century. A blue and white lobed garlic-headed vase of pear shape with horizontal flange where the neck is at its narrowest. The main decoration decoration on the body consists of four chrysanthemum heads joined by scrolling swept back leaves between line borders, above a continuous classic scroll. The neck has lappets below the flange and spiky leaves above it, the garlic head has pendant petals. The blue and white stand is of hexagonal shape designed like a six legged stool with a round hole in the top to take the vase. The stool sits on a plinth with a scalloped base, the blue decoration on the stand is confined to line borders and brackets.
