White jade lap dog with bell and ribbon, Southern Song dynasty, China, 1127-1279. A white jade lap dog curled up, the head almost nibbling a rear paw. The tail is up over the haunch suggesting a division into three, one floppy ear stretched out. Its collar has a pendant bell and ribbon, the details are well carved, the stone has some brown flecks.
