Black jade recumbent bear insert, Han dynasty, China, 206 BC-220 .A black jade carving of a recumbent bear made to fit into a metal or similar mount with holes for affixation on the otherwise undecorated base. The jade is predominately of black colour. The claws and fangs are all simply carved in one line in typical Han style. The eyes are mere dots and there is a distinctive ruff around the neck.
