Henan Temmoku guan shaped jar, Song dynasty, China, 960-1279. A large and fine Henan Temmoku guan shaped jar from Henan province with two leaf shaped fluted handles. The straight up lip and handles with some brown suffusions. The body tapers to a small broad footed base which is unglazed. The body has a thick black treacly pitted glaze falling in driplets down about 2/3rds of the body. The remainder is unglazed revealing the creamy body.
