Tinned bronze marriage mirror, Tang dynasty, China, 618-907. An eight-lobed tinned bronze marriage mirror decorated in relief with a small circular medallion. The decoration at the top depicts a hare pounding the elixir of immortality to the west of a bodhi tree with a toad to the east of the tree. At the bottom (or south segment) is a three-clawed dragon over waves, with two trefoil clouds flanking the dragon. On the west and east of the mirror are two long-tailed birds in flight carrying knotted ribbons in their beaks.
