Celadon vase and cover of Yue type with carved peony decoration, Northern Song dynasty, Zhejiang Province, China, 960-1127. A greyish celadon vase and cover. The globular body is decorated with carved and combed decoration of four peony sprays above a band of downward pointing lotus petals. The shoulder has a further band of downward pointing, overlapping carved lotus petals with combed details. The base is unglazed but shows a greyish body with traces of having been fired on a ring of sand. The cover has a partly-hollow pagoda-like finial with 5-nicked edge decorated in its lower part with a cross-hatched pattern.
