European copy of a Chinese famille noire plate with cockerel looking at a butterfly, 20th century. A plate with pink peonies amid floral sprays on a black glazed ground round cavetto and rim. In the centre is a petal shaped medallion containing a cockerel on a rock looking at butterflies and peonies all in famille rose enamels. There is a narrow band of hatched pink decoration round the rim. The reverse is undecorated.
