Soldiers inside a building during a bombardment, Plateau d'Avron, Franco-Prussian War, December 1870. A strategically important piece of high ground, the Plateau d'Avron was defended tenaciously by the French against Prussian assaults and bombardments during the Siege of Paris until the decision was made on 29th December to abandon it.
