Statue of Rameses II, 13th century BC. Rameses II is regarded as possibly the greatest Pharaoh of Ancient Egypt. His reign (1279-1213 BC) was notable for an upsurge in the rate of temple building. From an exhibition on Rameses held at the Grand Palais in Paris in 1976.
