Arch of Titus, Rome, Italy, 1st century AD. The arch commemorates the capture and sack of Jerusalem by the Roman emperor Titus (39-81) in 70 during the Jewish revolt against Roman rule. This relief shows Romans carrying off treasures looted from the city. Titus was military commander in Judea at the time. He became emperor in 79 and the arch was built shortly after his death.
