Temple of Heliopolitan Zeus, Baalbek, Lebanon, 10-249 AD. Baalbek, in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, was known as Heliopolis, the City of the Sun. It is the site of some of the finest Roman temples to be found. The Temple of Heliopolitan Zeus (Jupiter) was one of the largest anywhere in the Roman Empire. Today only these six massive columns remain. UNESCO declared the ruins of Heliopolis a World Heritage Site in 1984.
