Légende
The architects of the Church of St Ouen, Rouen, c1440, (1910). Design made from an incised slab, showing the capuchon or berretino, (also at times called the roundlet). In both cases the berretino is shown thrown over the right shoulder. The end of the becca shows quite clearly on the second figure, a little above the head on the right side. The bag sleeve in its primitive form was still prevailing. The hair was still cropped in the same ungainly manner on the Continent as prevailed in England. Illustration from British Costume during 19 Centuries by Mrs Charles H Ashdown, (London, 1910).
