Richard Boleslawski, Polish film director and actor, 1933. Boleslawski (1880-1937) emigrated to America after the Russian Revolution. He founded the American Laboratory (Stage) Theatre in New York in 1923, teaching the technique that would come to be known as 'method acting', before accepting a contract to direct films in Hollywood.
