The original manuscript, with corrections, of the first part (vol i) of A Sentimental Journey through France and Italy, written by Lawrence Sterne in 1767 and published in 1768. The page reproduced contains the mention of 'Eliza' and her picture. The detached signature is from a letter to T Becket, bookseller, dated 15th July 1763, relative to the sale of vols v and vi of Tristram Shandy. From the fourth series of Facsimiles of royal, historical, literary and other autographs in the Department of Manuscripts, British Museum: Series I - V, (London, 1899).
