Tom Taylor, dramatist and critic, 1881. Taylor (1817-1880) was a popular Victorian playwright who wrote some 70 plays in all. His best-known works are probably 'The Dead Heart' (1859), 'The Ticket-of-Leave Man' (1863), and 'Our American Cousin' (1858), the play that President Abraham Lincoln was watching when he was assassinated in 1865.
