Roundell Palmer, 1st Earl of Selborne, British lawyer and Liberal politician, c1890. Palmer (1812-1895) served as Lord Chancellor in Gladstone's Liberal governments from 1872-1874 and from 1880-1885, after which he disagreed with Gladstone's policy on Irish Home Rule and joined the Liberal Unionists.
