Moorish calvalry under Lusius Quietus fighting against the Dacians, (1902). Detail of Trajan's Column in Rome which was raised by Apollodorus of Damascus at the order of the Senate. It is located in Trajan's Forum, built near the Quirinal Hill, north of the Roman Forum. Completed in 113 AD, the column is carved in low relief with a narrative of the emperor Trajan's two campaigns in Dacia (modern Romania). In 1588 the statue of Trajan which topped the column was replaced with one of St Peter. Illustration from 'The World's History, The Mediterranean Nations, by Dr H F Helmolt, Volume IV, (published by William Heinemann, London, 1902).
