Légende
Hotel de Ville, Paris, late 19th century. The city hall of Paris, the Hotel de Ville was built in 1871. From the exterior it is a faithful reproduction of the building burnt down by extremists during the Paris Commune in 1871. The building houses the offices of the Mayor of Paris and has been the scene of historic events including the declaration of the Third Republic and Charles de Gaulle's speech following the liberation of Paris in 1944. Photograph from Portfolio of Photographs, of Famous Scenes, Cities and Paintings by John L Stoddard, published by the Werner Company, (Chicago, c1899).
