Opening of the Great Exhibition, Hyde Park, London, 1851, (1888.). The Crystal Palace, designed by Joseph Paxton as part of Prince Albert's Great Exhibition, was an enormous glass building housing displays of trade and industry from around the world, as well as enormous fountains and living trees.
