King James II at the Abbey of La Trappe, France. After he was deposed in the Glorious Revolution of 1688, James II went into exile in France, where he was welcomed by Louis XIV. After his unsuccessful expedition to Ireland in 1689-1690 James returned to France again, where he remained until his death in 1701. A print from Cassell's Illustrated History of England.
