James Stansfeld, British politician, 19th century. Stansfeld (1820-1898) pictured during his term as President of the Local Government Board, a position he held in Gladstone's Liberal administration from 1871 until 1874. He served in the post again in 1886. Stansfeld was MP for Halifax for 36 years. From a series of Figaro Cartoons titled Men of the period.
