Tarr Steps, across the River Barle in Exmoor, Somerset, 1937. Prehistoric clapper bridge near Dulverton, dating from c1000 BC. The largest slab is over 8 feet long and is about 5 feet wide. Local legend has it that the slabs were placed across the river by the devil to win a bet. Sights of Britain, third series of 48 cigarette cards, issued with Senior Service, Junior Member, and Illingworth cigarettes.
