Front of the old East India House, London, 1894. Founded in 1600, the British East India Company effectively ruled India from 1757 until after the Indian Rebellion of 1857 when the administration of the territory was transferred to the British government. This building in Leadenhall Street served as the company's headquarters from 1648 until 1726. From India Office Records by Danvers.
