Early 19th century version of a scene from Hogarth's serieds of 1732; the harlot is now beating hemp in Bridewell Prison, a House of Correction for prostitutes in Tothill Fields, London. The warder stands by her holding a whip, indicating the punishment that will follow if she does not work hard.
