'The English factories at Canton', 1847. Guangzhou, (also known as Canton), was a 'Factory' or trading port in China. After the end of the first Opium War between Britain and China in 1842, it became one of the five treaty ports under the Treaty of Nanking. Drawn by B Clayton, from a painting by Piqua.
