The north section of the '450 Pagodas', Mandalay, Burma (Myanmar), 1900s. 'Before us are a few of the 450 pagodas, arranged in an immense square in the centre of which stands a magnificent temple. Each pagoda contains treasured stone tablets on which are carved portions of the Burmese Holy Book. The whole square, surrounded by a high wall, is a most impressive monument to the religion of Buddha.' Stereoscopic card. Detail.
