Hamilton Palace, South Lanarkshire, home of the Duke of Hamilton, c1880. Said to have been the largest non-royal residence in the western world at one time, Hamilton Palace was built in the 1690s, with the North Front added in 1842. The house was demolished in the 1920s. A print from A Series of Picturesque Views of Seats of the Noblemen and Gentlemen of Great Britain and Ireland, edited by Reverend FO Morris, Volume VI, William Mackenzie, London, c1880.
