Calamity Jane, General Crook's scout, c1870-1876 (1954). Martha Jane Cannary-Burke, better known by her nickname of Calamity Jane, was a frontierswoman who served as a scout with the US Cavalry on the Indian frontier in the 1870s. She was a friend of Wild Bill Hickock, and later in life appeared as a trick shooter and horse rider with Colonel William F 'Buffalo Bill' Cody's travelling Wild West show.
