Légende
Henry Sacheverell, English High Church clergyman and politician, early 18th century (1906). Sacheverell (1674-1724) preached two sermons strongly criticising the Whig Government's policy regarding the church in 1709. After a trial he was suspended from preaching for two years, which contributed to the outbreak of rioting in London and elsewhere in the country (Sacheverell Riots) in 1710. The riots contributed to the government drafting the Riot Act in 1714. A print from Queen Anne, by Herbert Paul, Goupil and Co, London, 1906.
