Sir Richard Fanshawe, 17th century English diplomat and author, 1792. From the original portrait by Sir Peter Lely. Fanshawe (1608-1666) took the Royalist side during the English Civil War and was captured at the Battle of Worcester. After the Restoration he served as Envoy to Portugal and then Ambassador to Spain.
