Légende
Nasmyth's patent steam hammer, 1866. The steam hammer was invented by the Scottish engineer and inventor James Nasmyth (1808-1890). It took the human effort out of the process of forging wrought iron and steel to form engine and machine parts, as well as substantially reducing production costs. A print from Cyclopaedia of Useful Arts, Mechanical and Chemical, Manufactures, Mining, and Engineering, edited by Charles Tomlinson, Volume II, Virtue and Co, London, 1866.
