The Javanese dancers, Universal Exposition, Paris, 1889. The Exposition Universelle of 1889 was staged in commemoration of the centenary of the French Revolution. The Eiffel Tower was built at the entrance to the exhibition. The Javanese dancers were one of the most popular attractions on display.
