Légende
Wine beaker (tsun), ancient Chinese, (1925). A taotie mask, with protuberant eyeballs, is arranged on either side of each of the three vertical ridges. Above each ridge is a head of the sacrificial victim, hsi. The two upper encircling bands are figured with the k'uei dragon. Spaces between the decorative elements are filled in with 'cloud and thunder' pattern. Pre-Han style, showing supposedley autochthonous Chinese art. A print from Chinese Art, Burlington Magazine Monographs, BT Batsford, Ltd, London, 1925.
