The Royal Exchange, London, late 19th or early 20th century. The Royal Exchange in the City of London was founded in 1565 by Sir Thomas Gresham to act as a centre of commerce for the city. The present Royal Exchange building is the third to occupy the site, the previous two having been destroyed by fires in 1666 and 1838 respectively. Completed in 1844, it was designed by Sir William Tite.
