Adolf Hitler reviewing the battleship SMS 'Schleswig-Holstein', Hamburg, Germany, 1936. Hitler (1889-1945) acknowledging the salutes of the crew. The 'Schleswig-Holstein' was a 'Deutschland' class battleship launched in 1906. On 1 September 1939 she fired the first shots of World War II at the outset of the Nazi invasion of Poland. The ship was subsequantly involved in the invasion of Denmark before being returned to training duties. In 1944 'Schleswig-Holstein' was deployed in Gotenhafen (Gdynia) as an anti-aircraft ship, where she was sunk by RAF bombers on 18 December. A print from Adolf Hitler.
